Appliances your home business just doesn’t need
When you’re running a startup business from home, it’s possible to have something approximating the best of both worlds. You do not need to commute, usually, and can set your day up in the order that works for you. At the same time, you can still do a lot of what an office-based business does, because it’s never been easier to equip your home with the devices needed to run a business.
One thing you do need to watch out for, though, is the idea that because your business could use a device, you need to buy it for the home. The more your house begins to resemble an office, the less you benefit from the agility that working from home allows you. You’ll find it harder to switch off from work and enjoy an evening with your family if you have to maneuver around the photocopier to get to the fridge. With that in mind, it’s fair to consider that while there may be some appliances you do need, the following are a few you don’t.
Fax machine
Maybe in the 1990s, this was a sound investment for a home business, but there’s less and less reason to have a fax machine at all these days. There are few functions that a fax machine has that aren’t already delivered by email. Even if you do have a reason to send a fax, you can do it online so there’s no reason to have a machine taking up space, demanding ink and toner, and adding to the noise. If you really need a fax machine – and it’s hard to imagine that you would – you probably also need an office outside the home.
3D printer
We get it, 3D printing is fantastic. Genuinely, it has so many potential applications that could be revolutionary in the future. No matter how much you try and convince yourself you need one, though, the truth is that it’s not a worthwhile purchase for a home office. For one thing, you can’t really keep it in the house because it needs to be in a carefully ventilated space. For another, you can save on the cost of buying a 3D printer and the necessary additional materials, get the printing done by a Dubai 3D Printing expert who will get it right first time, and concentrate on what you do need.
Paper shredder
Everyone loves the feeling of using a paper shredder for the first time. Until it gets jammed, which most home paper shredders will, frequently. Ideally, your home business will be as paperless as possible, given that you can get statements, invoices, and all other important documents sent electronically. If you absolutely, positively have documents that need to be disposed of confidentially, you can ask a shredding service to do the work, and they’ll have the know-how and the means to dispose of the shreddings. A home paper shredder is essentially a noisy box that could injure a curious child or pet, and you don’t need it.
