If you’re starting out in Path of Exile, here’s some great choices for classes.
Path of Exile certainly isn’t one of the easiest games for you to get started with. You have to get your head around the likes of the unique PoE currency system, how leagues work, and ultimately what to do with your character to get started. With a huge skill tree to consider, an orb and crafting system to think about, and much more it’s easy to get confused. However, knowing what class you are going to choose is going to be a big help towards getting to where you need to be. So let’s take a look at what your best options are going to be when it comes to your PoE class.
Marauder
If you have played games similar to Path of Exile, then you are probably familiar with the tank class. The Marauder is the PoE version of the tank. You will be focusing on melee, strength-based approaches to playing the game. Thanks to health regeneration, you will be able to take damage and gain your health back. It has better survivability than a lot of other classes, but does less damage as a consequence.
Having high life stats means that you don’t have to worry as much when being attacked by enemies. It is also useful when you’re fighting bosses in endgame content, and including the armor defence stat it has, you will be able to survive much easier than anywhere else. You can still do a decent amount of damage as well, provided you use the relevant build paths. In fact, some offer passive damage dealing as well.
To sum this class up, you are getting a melee kind of build that is less risky than other choices. This will give you confidence against bosses and protect you against the damaging foes that come your way later into the game.
Shadow
Meanwhile, you have the Shadow class which is more of a combination of skills than going all out in one area. Here you will have a much higher damage output using this class, whilst utilising other forms of defence to aid your chances of staying alive as well. This is a great advantage too, since it generally has low life to contend with.
When it comes down to versatility, Shadow is one of the best classes to choose form. You can stick to melee if you wish, or branch out into ranged and casting damage. Whatever area you choose, you are going to do well. You aren’t going to need to spend an Exalted Orb on anything to make this build better. The ascendancies are all capable of helping you survive damage taken, so you can increase your energy shield, health or mana. With effective clearing speeds, attacking from safe distances and generally being one of the game’s best build, this is an easy choice to make.
Witch
This is a class that focuses on intelligence and casting. As you can imagine, you’re going to be casting a lot of spells as a Witch, so it’s helpful to know that she has the choices of skill nodes and spell-based gems at her disposal. You will be mainly using ranged attacks that possess necromancy or elemental damage dealt to your foes. For defence you can use an energy shield that can garner a lot of protection.
What’s important about this hefty energy shield life pool is that you aren’t likely to be killed with one hit. You can also take advantage of the far-out range damage that she is capable of. From a damage point of view, she’s effective at the start and the end, with most of her builds being useful for clearing and single-target damage to enemies.
Overall, there’s just so many benefits to the Witch. You can use elemental and necromancy damage. You can balance damage output and survivability. You have build paths that will keep you safe and are suitable for new players. The fact that you can clear out mobs quickly too is also a massive bonus. If you wish to increase your damage output, then you can do so at the cost of lowering your survivability. So you won’t be traipsing around PoE trade for items to help you with builds that this class has to offer.
These are all great choices for classes if you’re a new player. If you are going to spend your PoE currency on making your class better, then these three are definitely up there with the very best of them.
