The Chocobos are one of Final Fantasy’s most iconic creatures. Players wonder how they can personalize and color their trusty mounts to make them more unique.     

Final Fantasy’s favorite feathery steed is available to everyone playing the popular MMO. Players can acquire a Chocobo mount for their characters without spending any FFXIV Gil. These birdlike mounts can be used to quickly travel from one place to another, which sure beats the hassle of walking on foot or spending money on Aetherytes. Since Final Fantasy’s most important content is cosmetics, many players are wondering how they can change the colors of their Chocobo. 

How to Get a Chocobo

Gamers can’t start customizing their mounts if they don’t have one yet. That is why players should learn how to acquire a Chocobo for their FFXIV accounts, and the process is not that complicated. Getting a feathery steed won’t cost any Gil, but it will require some other type of currency. 

After reaching level 20, Warriors of Light are asked to join one of the three active Grand Companies situated in the significant city-states in Eorzea. After joining one, players are given the “My Little Chocobo” quest from one of the officers in their company’s home state. The task will require gamers to exchange a token and some Company seals to obtain the Chocobo. After doing so, the players will have their mount. 

How to Change Chocobo Color 

After acquiring their very own Chocobo, players can now start the process of coloring their trusty steed. Barding and customizing mounts are one of the many features available to gamers. By default, the color of the feathery support in Desert Yellow. Changing their color will require time, effort, and a bit of luck. 

Besides having the mount itself, gamers need to own a stable to station the Chocobo, which will require a residential property. A Stable can be purchased from NPCs or acquired from a Free Company and can then be installed in any owned lot. The structure is quite large and will need sufficient in the property’s garden. 

To change the color of the Chocobo, players need to stabilize their mount and choose the “Tend to My Chocobo” option. This selection will allow riders to feed snacks to their trusty companions. During this 6-hour process, the Chocobo will change their color depending on the type of fruit or snack they are given. Each feed will have a corresponding RGB value, which will dictate the hue of the mount. 

Chocobo Snacks’ RGB 

The color of the Chocobo will transform based on the RBG value it has by the end of the feeding process. Each hue is affected by the type of snack that has been fed to the mount. Here are the RGB values of each available feed: 

  • Xelphatol Apple (RGB: +5/-5/-5) – increases Red and decreases Green and Blue 
  • Doman Plum (RGB: -5/+5/+5) – increases Green and decreases Red and Blue  
  • Mamook Pear (RGB: -5/+5/-5) – increases Blue and decreases Red and Green 
  • Valfruit (RGB: +5/-5/+5) – increases Green and Blue and decreases Red 
  • O’Ghomoro Berries (RGB: -5/-5/+5) – increases Red and Blue and reduces Green 
  • Cieldalaes Pineapple (RGB: +5/+5/-5) – increases Red and Green and reduces Blue 
  • Han Lemon (RGB: +5/-5/-5) – restores the Chocobo’s hue to Desert Yellow  

The key to getting the desired color is to use the correct number of fruits to get the RGB values close to the color shade the players want. Here are all the available colors and their corresponding points in the color model:

Many of the hues’ values go over a hundred, so players will need to prepare many snacks to achieve their desired color. The main trick during this process is to alternate the type of food being fed to the Chocobos. This will help players avoid maxing out one of the RGB values, making it easier to manipulate. There are a lot of things that players can do with their Chocobos. From taking them to remote areas to assisting in battles, these trusty steeds will have a place among any adventurer.
